This Norman Rockwell Museum Tankard/Mug was made of white porcelain in Japan in 1985 as part of the Seafarers Collection created especially for Long John Silver's Seafood Shoppes. The picture on the front of the mug is based on the Norman Rockwell art 'Looking Out to Sea'. This mug is approximately 4 3/8-inches tall and 2 3/4-inches in diameter and at the 24-K gold trimmed rim. There is also a 24-K gold band around the bottom edge and a line down the middle of the handle. On the back of the mug in blue script lettering is the name of the artwork 'Looking Out To Sea', and under that in black lettering is the artwork story 'The waves crash against the rocky coast as the old may shares his tales of adventure on the high seas. And the boy dreams of the day when he too will go to sea just as his father and grandfather did before him.' and under that is the copyright symbol, '1985, The Norman Rockwell Museum, Inc.' and under that in blue is the Norman Rockwell Museum mark. On the bottom of the mug is an oval paper label with 'MADE IN JAPAN' on it. This mug will come in its original box.
This mug is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or scratches. The picture on the front is beautiful and full of life and color and the gold leaf trim is excellent. There are a few small surface scratches on the gold band at the bottom of the mug and the original box has some scratches and a black blotch on the bottom where a price was scratched out.
