EGG DISCLAIMER: This was an abandoned, non-fertile egg to start with from free-range birds! It was then sterilized after being blown. The eggs were not raised for this purpose nor were any birds harmed in the process of collecting this egg. This is just a way for me to use something that was left for Nature to take care of!
This item is a real duck egg that I've made into a jewelry or keepsake box. The egg was hardened first all around the inside with several layers of 2-part epoxy before the brass gold-plated hinge ring was epoxied on; then I fashioned a liner for the inside with pieces of beautiful, rich aqua-colored velvet and gold-colored trim. The outside is trimmed with beautiful matching Aqua-colored Swarovski Austrian Crystal chains, flatbacks and gold-plated findings (notice the delicate butterfly resting on the side) all glued onto a glittered overlay that is permanently sealed (you won't get glitter on your hands with this). Finally, I've used a brass gold-plated stand that is epoxied on for durability.
This beautiful collectible would make a wonderful Mother's Day, birthday, anniversary or for next Christmas!! It is a OOAK because I have made no others exactly like it (no two can EVER be done EXACTLY alike anyway) nor were any molds made from it! The design is also mine!
It is best to place this jewelry box in an area that is free from sunlight and up away from children and animals....such as a mantle, dresser, curio cabinet or bookshelf! Also, because glue is involved in this design, keep it away from heat sources (including overhead return vents from your heater)! Even though the egg is hardened with several layers of epoxy, it is still considered an egg and should be treated as such! It WILL break if dropped from several feet up because of the weight of the stand and other findings on it!
